Why do an internship in Canary Islands

History and environment

The Canary Islands are part of Macaronesia, which is more precisely a group of volcanic territories consisting of the Canary Islands, Madeira, Cape Verde and the Azores, located to the west and near the North African coast. The archipelago of the Canary Islands is the most populated, with about 2,218,344 inhabitants and the largest, with an area of 7,447 km2, of Macaronesia, consisting of seven main islands: Fuerteventura, La Gomera, Gran Canaria, El Hierro, Lanzarote, La Palma and Tenerife. In addition, it also forms one of the seventeen autonomous communities of Spain: the autonomous community of the Canary Islands. It is divided into two provinces, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas. Since 1927, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, share the function of capital of the archipelago, every four years. Moreover, being located in the Atlantic Ocean, the Canary Islands have an extremely mild climate. The average annual temperature can vary from 22 to 24 degrees throughout the year, which allows you to feel the heat but also to breathe the pure air of nature.

Places of interest and traditional festivals

Each of these islands has its own identity. Indeed, one of the most touristic activities, but worth it for its landscapes, is the crossing of the Maspalomas dunes, located on Gran Canaria island. On the other hand, on the island of Tenerife, you can discover a totally different landscape, dominated by a volcano. Not to be missed are its unmissable black sand beaches and its carnival. On the island of Lanzarote, its landscape marked by numerous volcanic eruptions, has a national park, Timanfaya, an unusual place to make an excursion. As for the island of Palma, its national park Caldeira de Taburiente, houses an astronomical observatory to enjoy the exceptional night light. Otherwise, in Fuerteventura, nicknamed “the red island”, by its numerous arid landscapes, is provided with an Oasis Park hosting more than 3000 animals. Renting a boat in the Canary Islands can be a good solution to enjoy and discover the different islands of the archipelago, without missing anything to see as the carnival of Tenerife or Gran Canaria, being the most popular festival.
